Characteristics ~ ~ ~ ~

Gallimimus is known as the chicken mimic due to its similarities to modern day birds like hollow bones, an S shaped neck, a toothless mouth, and 3 toed feet. Most traits can be compared to an ostrich, the main differences being that Gallimimus had developed arms and a long tail. The Feathers formed a coat over the animal with quill knobs for larger feathers on the arm and likely a pygostyle for a tail fan. Gallimimus was over 6 feet tall and around 800-1000 pounds. Generally they are presumed to be herbivores eating low shrubbery but they may have been opportunistic omnivores. Gallimimus likely lived in flocks using each other to keep watch for predators like Tarbosaurus and running away at around 30 mph. They also likely nested together using their arm feathers to cover and protect their eggs. Other similar mimic dinosaurs are Struthiomimus the Ostrich mimic, Ornithomimus the bird mimic, Archaeornithomimus the ancient bird mimic, Sinornithomimus the Chinese bird mimic and Anserimimus the Goose mimic which coexisted with Gallimimus; along with other diverse dinosaurs like Deinocheirus Saurolophus, Nemegtosaurus, Prenocephale, Protoceratops, Velociraptor, Therizinosaurus, and Mononykus.
