Ankylosaurus

Characteristics

Lived 66 mya in North America and can be found in the Hell Creek Formation. It was the first discovered and largest of the Ankylosauria family, being 33 feet long and reaching weights of 4 tons. Ankylosaurus was covered with osteoderms to form heavy armor covering the top of its entire body. They were so well-armored that they even had bony eyelids. Ankylosaurus had a heavy club at the end of their tail formed at the last few tail vertebrae. It was very thick and could be swung at immense speed, the force it could be swung with is estimated to be ___N which is the equivalent of being hit by a brick… at 230 miles per hour. Ankylosaurus has been found with damage to them occasionally, but only done by their tail clubs. There are no signs of predation on ankylosaurus fossils meaning predators like Tyrannosaurus Rex avoided them. Ankylosaurus ate a variety of low-growing shrubs and ferns, and the potential of other items to supplement its diet.
