Characteristics ~ ~ ~ ~
Edmontosaurus is one of the largest of all the hadrosaurus growing to up to 14 meters long standing at a resting height of 12 feet and weighing an average of 5½ metric tons. With some exceptionally large but fragmentary individuals almost reaching 50 feet long It’s size was it’s greatest strength being so large it could use it’s size and weight to defend itself from predators. And by Predators I mean Tyrannosaurus with fossil evidence supporting Tyrannosaurus hunting Edmontosaurus. It defended itself by standing on its hind legs for intimidation or running away at up to 30 miles per hour. Edmontosaurus were social animals living in large herds and migrating in search of food, doing so for safety in numbers and to protect their offspring. A relative of Edmontosaurus, Maisaura laid eggs in clutches of 16, given that Edmontosaurus was larger it likely laid 20-25 eggs. Which would give birth to tiny babies that would stick closely to their mothers until mature at around __ years. Most however would not make it to adulthood. Of it’s two species E. Regalis has a small rounded crest on the top of it’s head while E. annectens is crestless. Regalis is also less common and older than annectens about 9 million years older and only found in the Horseshoe canyon formation. Edmontosaurus lived with many iconic dinosaurs like Anzu, Ankylosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Triceratops, and Struthiomimus. Edmontosaurus went extinct at the K-PG mass extinction as the meteor landed clouding the skies with smoke, Edmontosaurus food supply disappeared and because of it’s large size it could not feed itself.
